Masala Chai Mix

by @indianvegcookclass

This is a wonderful gift idea.  The spices are so Christmassy.  In the northern hemisphere you can enjoy it hot but if you are in the southern hemisphere like us I'd strain it over a tall glass of ice!

You’ll need a jar up to 500ml

Tip – You can use your empty 350ml Virgin Coconut Oil jars or 500ml Coconut Butter jars or any other empty jars you have, so long as they can withstand boiling water. Note, a 500ml jar will make 2-3 cups of tea.

Ingredients:

Chai Spice -

½ cinnamon stick

4 cardamom pods

2 cloves

1 tsp fennel seeds

¼ tsp ground ginger powder

3 tbsp Niulife Organic Coconut Milk Powder

3 tsp good quality black tea leaves

To garnish:

Rose Petals (dried)

2-3 Saffron strands

Method:

In a pan, on medium to high heat, dry toast the chai spice mix (except for the ginger powder), for 2-3 minutes until aromatic.

Coarsely grind all the toasted spices, then add the ginger powder.

In the jar, layer first with the black tea leaves, then Niulife Organic Coconut Milk Powder, and then the spice mix.

Garnish with rose petals and saffron for extra special flavour to the tea.

Tighten the lid on the jar, decorate with a ribbon and cinnamon, and voila you have a beautiful gift or something you can indulge in yourself.

To make the tea, just add boiling water, stir well, and let it brew for a minimum of two (2) minutes before straining into a cup.
